This bulletin explores the research on best practices for supporting families after children return from out-of-home care. Family reunification is the preferred permanency option in child welfare, and it is the most common goal for children and youth in out-of-home care as well as the most common outcome. However, reunified families often require specific supports to prevent the reentry of children into the child welfare system. This publication looks at best practices, as well as a number of examples of successful, innovative programs that support reunified families.
