DMV's AutoRenew

Welcome to DMV’s AutoRenew! This online service offers the opportunity to renew some kinds of registrations from the convenience of a computer. We are thrilled to offer it to you as we strive to make our agency a 21st Century DMV. This pilot project is just the beginning of creating alternative approaches to help people reach us in different ways. Our customers are important. We will continue to find ways for you to do business with us without having to visit an office.

Sincerely,
Robert M. Ward
DMV Commissioner

Please read this important information
before making your online transaction.

Who May Use Online Renewal
Only vehicle owners whose renewal notice stated that they were eligible. In that notice is a special Personal Identification Number (PIN) needed to access the online system. Please note that only vehicle owners whose registration expiration date is September 2007 or later may renew online.

Vehicle Owners Eligible to Renew Online
Vehicle owners may renew online provided they have no delinquent taxes, outstanding parking tickets or suspended registration. They also must have complied with insurance and emissions testing requirements.

Address and Other Changes
You cannot make address and other changes to your information at the DMV using this renewal system. You can request a change-of-address form to file an address change with the DMV. In addition, any other changes to your registration will require that you mail in your application.

Processing Time
Do your registration renewal early enough after receiving your PIN number so that your new registration documents can be sent to you by regular mail service. DMV does not send these documents by overnight service. Once the online transaction is processed, your confirmation of that renewal taking effect is your new registration certificate and windshield sticker. Please note that motor vehicles cannot legally be operated without a registration certificate and an expiration sticker. If you do not receive your registration sticker within 10 days of completing your online renewal, contact DMV at 860-263-5700 outside the Hartford area or at 1-800-842-8222 elsewhere in Connecticut.

Leased Vehicles
If you are leasing your vehicle, you may renew online, but the registration certificate and expiration sticker will be mailed to the leasing company as legal owner of the vehicle.

Late Registration Renewals
You may renew online up to 30 days after expiration of your registration, but you will be assessed a $10 late fee if you renew late.  Please note that motor vehicles cannot legally be operated without a registration certificate and an expiration sticker.
