Retirement

Retirement is one of the most valuable benefits of military service. Don’t lose the valuable time you’ve already invested.

Whichever branch of the military you were in before, your time there counts toward your 20-year retirement. For example, if you served six years in the Navy, you need 14 more years in the Guard to receive your military retirement benefits.

And remember, the Guard is part time, so you can still hold a full-time or part-time civilian job, receive both paychecks and enjoy full benefits on both retirement programs when you’re in your 60s. Your Guard benefits won’t be affected by any other retirement funds you receive.

Benefits

  • Receive active-service credit for all years on Active Duty
  • Retire at 20 years; reserve or active periods count toward your retirement
  • Enjoy TRICARE for life once you reach age 60
