Bison leave their hoof prints on D-I hoops titles

It’s been just over eight months since Mannheim High School shuttered its doors forever, but that didn’t stop former Bison stars Sam Rosario and Emma Roberts from leaving some traces of Mannheim on the just-concluded European Division I basketball tournaments.

Rosario, a senior guard, and Roberts, a junior forward, each was voted to the Division I all-tournament team Saturday night after the Lions and Lady Lions defeated their counterparts from Ramstein in the three-day tourney’s championship games.

All-Stars Jones, Dickey commit to Kansas JUCOs

Running back Xavier Jones of Ansbach and defensive end Justin Dickey of Ramstein, both selected for the 2011 All-Europe and DODDS-Europe All-Star teams, have agreed to play for junior college programs in Kansas this fall.


Dickey, a 6-5, 205-pound defensive end who made 53 tackles last fall – including 15 sacks and 18 more which resulted in losses  – will attend Highland (Kan.) Community College. Jones, a 5-11, 207-pounder who rushed for over 1,900 yards and 25 touchdowns in eight games last fall, is bound for Hutchinson (Kan.) Junior College.

Hundreds of high school basketball players are participating in multiple games each day at the DODDS-Europe basketball championships this week in and around Wiesbaden, Germany. But American military facilities can only handle so much.

Enter the German police.

Wild cards complete 156-wrestler field for Euros

DODDS-Europe athletic director Karen Seadore released a list of the wild-card entries Tuesday for this weekend’s DODDS-Europe wrestling championships at Wiesbaden Army Airfield.

Forty-four wild cards joined the 112 wrestlers who qualified automatically by finishing first or second at last Saturday’s four sectional qualifying meets.
