ceremony Aug. 26. During the traditional change of command ceremony, presided over by the Deputy Judge Advocate General of the Navy and Commander, Navy Legal Service Command Rear Adm. James W. Crawford III, Capt. Michael T. Palmer was relieved by Capt. Charles N. Purnell. - Southeast region legalmen assembled at the 2012 Reserve Military Law Training Symposium (MLTS) in Minneapolis, Minn., August 9-12. The MLTS is the reserve component's premier training event that allows legalman to stay abreast of current developments in the active duty legal community while honing and updating their paralegal skills.
- Capt. Patrick J. Neher retired after 29 years of service in the Navy at the Washington Navy Yard on Aug. 23. He most recently served at Combined Joint Interagency Task Force 435, deployed in Afghanistan, from February 2011 to May 2012. Afte...r initially serving as the staff judge advocate, he was picked to join the U.S. delegation negotiating a Strategic Partnership Agreement with Afghanistan. In recognition of his role in the negotiations for a Strategic Partnership Agreement between the U.S. and Afghanistan, and supporting Memorandums of Understanding on the transition of detentions and the Afghanization of special operations, Neher was presented the Defense Superior Service Medal, Joint Meritorious Service Medal, and Department of State Distinguished Honor Award.See More

Seventeen active duty service members took the Oath of Allegiance during a naturalization ceremony on board USS Bunker Hill (CG 52). - Capt. David Wilson, commanding officer, Naval Legal Service Office Northwest and Army Col. Bill Joy change out Lt. Eileen Joy's shoulder boards during a promotion ceremony on board USS Bunker Hill (CG 52). Joy was promoted to lieutenant by her father on board Bunker Hill during the 63rd annual Seattle Seafair Parade of Ships.
