On July 10–11, 2012, the U.S. Department of Energy's Biomass Program hosted its fifth annual conference, Biomass 2012: Confronting Challenges, Creating Opportunities – Sustaining a Commitment to Bioenergy, at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center. This year's conference was co-hosted by Advanced Biofuels USA and examined the dynamic playing field of bioenergy in 2012 as exciting new technologies move forward within a shifting policy, tax, and economic landscape. The Biomass 2012 Agenda outlines events from the conference, including information about the exciting breakout sessions.

Biomass 2012 brought together hundreds of diverse stakeholders, with key decision makers in the public and private sectors, as well as a range of interdisciplinary experts, who discussed the latest advances in bioenergy technology, policy news, and financing strategies. Situated just blocks away from Capitol Hill, the White House, federal agencies, and the headquarters of numerous national and international organizations, the conference provided a superb forum for open dialogue about overcoming common challenges and sustaining our national commitment to building the advanced bioenergy economy. For the first time, the Biomass Program issued a Call for Posters, which were presented at this year's conference.

Also for the first time in Conference history, the Program used social media to share live details of the conference with people who were unable to attend. Utilizing the Bioenergy Knowledge Discovery Framework's Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as the Program's blog site, the Program shared pictures, quotes, and more. To review some of the posts, see the social media sites:
