HUD and Tribal Leaders Consultations Scheduled

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will be conducting a series of consultations between HUD officials and tribal leaders on the HUD study, “Assessment of Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian Housing Needs” (Housing Needs Study)". During this consultation, Tribal Leaders will have an opportunity to comment on the scope and design of the pending study.

ONAP's Proposed Training and Technical Assistance (NOFA)

HUD intends to competitively award training and technical assistance contracts to national and regional nonprofit and for-profit entities with demonstrated experience and expertise in the Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act of 1996 (NAHASDA).

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is soliciting public comments, under the Paperwork Reduction Act, on the information and data collection requirements for ONAP’s proposed Training and Technical Assistance Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA).  The data required includes pre-award application materials required to be submitted, and post award requirements under the cooperative agreement including technical budgets and reports on financial and task progress.

2011 Tribal Nations Conference

President Obama met with tribal leaders from across Indian Country today to engage in government to government discussions on economic issues affecting their reservations and proposed some innovative solutions for developing sustainable economies focusing on building solar and wind projects, reducing regulatory burdens, expanding broadband and leveraging private sector investment, among others. 

Also discussed was the Executive Order on Improving American Indian and Alaska Native Educational Opportunities and Strengthening Tribal Colleges and Universities. Read more...

On November 18, 2011, the Department of Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act, 2012, Public Law 112-55, 125 Stat. 552, was approved and provided funding for the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) FY 2012 programs. Based on the enactment of the FY2012 HUD appropriations, approximately $60,000,000 is available for the ICDBG program.  More information...

The purpose of the ICDBG program is to assist Indian tribes and Alaska Native villages to develop viable communities, including rehabilitating housing or building new housing or to buy land to support new housing construction. The funding can also be used to build infrastructure such as roads, water and sewer facilities, to create suitable living environments, and to spur economic development. Deadline January 4, 2012.
