The Documentaries

In 2009, its second year of documentary filmmaking, The National Guard Youth Documentary Series sent 16 young adults behind the scenes to explore how the Guard is redefining "going green."

The NG DOCS filmmakers were split into four teams—each crew traveling to one of four National Guard locations in Minnesota, Nevada, South Carolina and Texas. Each crew explored different Guard green projects, from reef rebuilding to wildlife research, asking the tough questions to dig deep into the green initiatives.

Congratulations to the Wolf Research (Minnesota) film crew for receiving the most votes for their film. In two weeks of voting, there were nearly 300,000 votes cast for the NG DOCS films. The Wolf Research documentary premiered on the big screen at the Dallas International Film Festival, April 13, 2010. You can watch it and the other three green documentaries here in the video section.

During the program's initial year in 2008, the first NG DOCS crews traveled to Iowa to team up with the Iowa National Guard and learn more about the heroes who helped during the catastrophic Midwest floods. The inaugural documentary, Two Rivers in Iowa, is currently airing on cable TV video-on-demand. Check out the film here on our website in the video section.
