Dear Colleagues,
Elizabeth Seale and I are very pleased to announce that Kristin McSwain will join the Corporation as the Director of AmeriCorps*State and National starting on August 7.
Many of you are already familiar with Kristin as the CEO of the Massachusetts Service Alliance. What you might not know is that Kristin’s entire career has been devoted to national and community service – first as a Teach for America teacher in Louisiana and then as a program director for Teach for America and Citizen Schools. Kristin also worked with Massachusetts AmeriCorps and Learn and Serve programs at the Alliance for five years before becoming CEO in 2003.
Kristin’s experience as a teacher, program director, commission program officer and CEO has given her an understanding of the interplay between communities, non-profits, commissions, volunteer centers, state education agencies and state offices that is so essential to administering all of the Corporation’s programs and to promoting service and volunteerism. In addition to her work experience, Kristin has a master’s degreefrom the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
As we make this transition, I want to extend my deepest thanks to Liz who has gracefully performed the arduous task of serving as both interim director and COO of the Corporation.
I hope that many of you will get a chance to thank Liz and congratulate and welcome Kristin at the National Conference on Volunteering and Service next week in Seattle.
Sincerely,
David Eisner
