Speaker Boehner Highlights GOP Focus on Jobs with Action on Keystone Pipeline, Cybersecurity Bills & More

At a press conference with Republican leaders today, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) previewed this week’s House action to move the Keystone pipeline forward, and to protect American jobs and security from the threat of cyber attacks.  Speaker Boehner also highlighted Republicans’ continuing focus on helping the economy create jobs for unemployed and underemployed Americans, including the more than 50 percent of college graduates under the age of 25 who have been unable to find full employment in the Obama economy.  Following are video and text of Speaker Boehner’s remarks:

“The House this week will continue to focus on the issues that the American people most care about, and that issue is jobs.

“We have four bills up this week dealing with the cyber terrorism that’s costing our country thousands of jobs every month.

“In addition to that, the Keystone pipeline that would create some 20,000 jobs immediately and up to over 100,000 indirect jobs as a result.  And as we go to conference on the highway bill with the Keystone pipeline attached to it, I think it’s time for the Senate to get serious about the need to expand American energy production.

“And, you know, the president’s out on his college tour talking about changing a law that was enacted by his Democrat colleagues that would double the interest rate on student loans coming this summer.  It’s an issue that Democrats and Republicans are working on, but what the president isn’t talking about is the fact that college students all across the country are asking the question: ‘Where are the jobs?’

“You know, half of college graduates [under age 25] are either unemployed or underemployed.  Republicans are going to continue to stay focused on making sure that we get our economy moving again and have jobs out there for the graduates of our colleges and universities.”
