Supporting Those Who Served Our Nation and Their Families

Congress must meet its commitment to the men and women who have served our nation in uniform. This includes ensuring that veterans have access to quality, affordable health care and that military retirees receive their promised retirement benefits. The members of our armed services protect our nation and our liberties every day. Congress must support them while they serve and after they return home.

Chris will continue to support efforts to improve the responsiveness of the Veterans Administration and to expand programs that help veterans find employment and transition back into civilian life. He also believes that we must also ensure combat veterans receive access to counseling and mental health treatment. Additionally, veterans’ families and caregivers must have the support they need in their important role.

Chris’ priorities for veterans include:

  • Making sure veterans get the medical care they need. We must always ensure that our veterans have access to quality, affordable medical care. This includes making certain that VA hospitals and clinics are clean, well equipped, and properly staffed. Our commitment to caring for veterans must also include support for their families and caregivers.
  • Helping veterans find employment and housing. In this tough economy, many veterans have faced unemployment and homelessness. Congress should support and expand programs that help veterans find jobs and learn new skills to help them advance in their careers and live dignified lives. Our veterans have so many talents and have proven themselves to be hard working and innovative, and we need to help them take full advantage as they navigate the job market.
  • Honoring commitments made to those who gave their lives. Those who were killed defending our country or have died of wounds suffered in its defense deserve our eternal gratitude. We must make sure to honor commitments our country made to them. That is why Chris was a cosponsor of the Arlington National Cemetery Oversight Bill (S. 3860) to make sure those who served our country are appropriately honored after their deaths and is a cosponsor of the War Widows and Widowers Bill (S. 260) to provide survivors of departed military members with their full Survivor Benefit Plan annuities.
