CHRISTOPHER E. THOMAS

Senior Executive Service

Mr. Christopher E. Thomas, a member of the Senior Executive Service, is the Administrator of the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC). He is responsible for planning and directing DTIC's mission activities to disseminate research and engineering technical information across the Department of Defense (DoD) and with DoD partners in industry and academia. DTIC is the largest central resource for government-funded science, technical, engineering, and business-related information available. The Center is a leader in fielding collaboration tools that enable diverse teams across the Department to work together. DTIC operates the DoD's Information Analysis Centers that perform specialized technical analysis that cover a broad array of science and technology areas.

Mr. Thomas also serves as DTIC's Chief Technology Officer. Previously, he was DTIC's Acting Administrator; Director, Information Systems Support; Director, Component Information Support; and Division Chief for Technology Applications. During his tenure at DTIC, he was instrumental in the production of DTIC's 2011-2016 Strategic Plan; accelerated the adoption of Internet technologies to redefine the way in which DTIC collects and disseminates information and oversaw DTIC's development and hosting of more than 100 DoD Web sites.

in 2009, Mr. Thomas was the Program Manager for the DoDTechipedia Suite of Services when it earned the Government Computer News Agency Award, for "outstanding information technology initiatives." DoDTechipedia features a wiki that allows scientists, researchers, and engineers to add and actively update content. The DoDTechipedia Suite of Services includes DoDTechSpace, a professional networking tool that provides users situational awareness of research and engineering issues, supports communities of interest, and offers responses to scientific and technical priorities from the Combatant Commands.

Before entering government service, Mr. Thomas served as a Director, Program Manager, Program Engineer, and Software Developer for federal government contractors. He led software development for DoD's first enterprise Web sites, including DefenseLink, and Air Force LINK.

Mr. Thomas holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) credential from the Project Management Institute and has a Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) Security Leadership (GSLC) certificate. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Old Dominion University, a Master of Arts in Economics from George Mason University, and attended the Federal Executive Institute-Leadership for a Democratic Society. He serves as an Acting Principal in CENDI, the federal scientific and technical Information managers group.
