Assistant Secretary Michaels discusses green job worker safety and health at US-Canada-European Commission Trilateral Roundtable, Feb. 3-4, 2011

Assistant Secretary Dr. David Michaels recently joined an international panel to discuss "Making Green Jobs Quality Jobs" while protecting worker safety and health.

Assistant Secretary Michaels discusses green job worker safety and health at US-Canada-European Commission Trilateral Roundtable On Friday, Feb. 4, Dr. Michaels discussed ways that government can work with the scientific and engineering community and with employers and workers to prevent worker injuries and illnesses in the growing green economy.

The event was organized by DOL's Bureau of International Labor Affairs in partnership with the European Commission's Directorate General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.

Held in DOL's Frances Perkins Building in Washington, D.C., two days of roundtable panel discussions provided an opportunity for more than 50 US, EU and Canadian participants to exchange information, best practices, and ideas on preparing workers and employers to meet the increasingly complex demands of transitioning to a green economy.

In the panel discussion on challenges to protecting worker safety and health, moderated by Georg Fischer with the European Commission, were: Dr. Michaels; Ken Bondy, representing Canadian Auto Workers; and Anne Panneels, an advisor with the European Trade Union Confederation. Event photos
