USNORTHCOM team member recognized for scholastic achievement

April 10 , 2006

MONTEREY, Calif. -- Donald J. Reed of U.S. Northern Command's J35 Future Operations Division was recently awarded the Curtis H. "Butch" Straub Achievement Award for his performance in the master's degree program at the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Homeland Defense and Security here.

The award is given to the participant who demonstrates the most outstanding leadership and exemplary academic performance.

Reed also completed a Master of Arts degree in Homeland Security Studies. During the 18-month online and in-residence program, he collaborated with homeland security officials from across the nation on current policy, strategy, and organizational design challenges. He prepared research papers and wrote a thesis on real-world policy development issues affecting USNORTHCOM.

Reed is responsible for Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) planning for manmade and natural disasters throughout USNORTHCOM's area of responsibility.
