Metrology Laboratory
Metrology, the science of measurement, is a critical part of providing accurate and repeatable data. Researchers in the NREL Metrology Laboratory ensure that their measurements are traceable and their instruments calibrated according to national or international standards.
Activities
The Metrology Laboratory provides World Radiometric Reference traceability for solar absolute cavity radiometers, pyrheliometers, pyranometers, and pyrgeometers.
The Metrology Laboratory also provides National Institute of Standards and Technology traceability for electrical:
- Multimeters
- Voltage sources
- Calibrators
- Frequency counters
- Resistors
- Capacitors
- Amplifiers
- Clamp-ons
- Transducers (watt, voltage, and current)
- Power supplies
- Current sources
- Oscilloscopes
- Function generators
- Current shunts
- Lock-in amplifiers
- Wattmeters
- Data loggers.
In addition, the lab provides National Institute of Standards and Technology traceability for temperature probes and monitors, tachometers, pressure calibrators and gages, and balances.
