Advancing Criminal Justice Through DNA Technology
Although NIJ funding supports a wide range of forensic disciplines, NIJ’s DNA research is some of the most visible and exciting. In 2006, the Institute provided more than $107 million in funding under the DNA Initiative, a 5-year plan to ensure that forensic DNA reaches its full potential to solve crimes, protect the innocent, and identify missing persons.
