States lead by example (LBE) by establishing energy management and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction programs within their own buildings and operations. These efforts save money on energy bills, lower GHG emissions, and demonstrate the feasibility and benefits of clean energy technologies and strategies to the larger market.

The Clean Energy Lead by Example Guide: Strategies, Resources, and Action Steps for State Programs (June 2009):

  • Identifies best practices and state examples of clean energy activities
  • Highlights the benefits and costs of taking action
  • Identifies issues, strategies, and resources for implementing key steps in the development of a comprehensive LBE program

Activities addressed include facility-level energy efficiency, green power purchases, clean distributed generation, and more.
