BULGARIA — Military officers from the U.S. Embassy Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC) participated in two ribbon-cutting ceremonies which marked the completion to renovations to the health centers in the village of Zheravna and the town of Kermen, Nov. 10.
In front of enthusiastic local residents and in the presence of local municipal officials, the center directors and staff thanked the U.S. military for their support, and spoke of providing a more pleasing environment for patients needing treatment and support at those centers. The senior ODC representative, U.S. Army Lt.Col. Hartman, christened the facilities and expressed his wish that people using the centers can lead happier and healthier lives as a result of the improvements made at the centers. Following the ceremony, the guests and visitors were entertained by with local traditional music, and participated in the traditional sharing of the bread.
The two renovation projects were financed under the U.S. Army Humanitarian Assistance program which has allocated more than USD $185,000 USD for the reconstruction of social facilities in the regions of Sliven, Yambol and Burgas during the past two years. All the renovation work was conducted by U.S. military personnel who were on temporary training assignments in Bulgaria, and who volunteered their time to help with these important projects.
