HQ Employee Orientation

Welcome from the Director

Congratulations on your new career or continuing Federal service and welcome to the DoDEA family! In accepting this position, you have made a commitment not only to DoDEA, but also to the Government of the United States and the children we support. It is our hope that this commitment marks the beginning of a long and distinguished career with us. You are joining an organization of more than 12,000 dedicated employees who perform their work in locations throughout the United States and foreign offices worldwide.

You may find more detailed information on the history, mission, and our organization within the web site. To help you find your place in the DoDEA, we have provided a map that indicates all DoDEA locations, as well as an organization chart.

On behalf of the DoDEA family and myself, we welcome you, and hope that you find this Web-site helpful in orienting you to our agency and in providing you with the tools needed to make a smooth transition to our organization.

Introduction

Do you remember your first day on the job? Were you confident, or were you a little anxious?

Most employees start a new job feeling a little uneasy about meeting their supervisor and coworkers and measuring up to their new job duties and expectations. They are often anxious to prove themselves and to "fit in" at the workplace. They also have many questions about their new work environment and wonder whether they can really do the job. Supervisors, however, often expect new employees will know what to do or will learn very quickly. Therefore, it is important for all new employees to participate in a solid orientation program to ensure a good start, to avoid potential miscommunication, and to make the job seem more manageable.

This Web-enabled Orientation for Employees is a guide designed to introduce you to the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) and to provide a foundation for new employees. It will help you define what orientation is, why it is important, what should be covered during in processing.

Orienting new employees will take some time and effort, but the time and effort spent are advantageous for you and our organization. The reward will assist in making a smooth transition into DoDEA's workforce.

This Web-enabled Orientation for Employees includes in-processing information, administrative forms, and instructions needed to begin your career with the DoDEA. It is our intent to provide you information about us and to provide you guidance that will assist you with your transition to DoDEA. This site is divided into eight sections:

  1. Welcome
  2. DoDEA
  3. Pay and Benefits
  4. Your In-processing
  5. About your Employment
  6. Safety and Security
  7. Headquarters (The Webb Building)

Sections 3, 4 and 5 contain important information and specific personnel forms that you will need to complete, items you need to bring with you on the first day of work, and expectation for the first day.
