Steering Committee

The ERIC Steering Committee is an expert technical group that serves in an advisory capacity to the U.S. Department of Education's ERIC program. It provides guidance and recommendations for implementing the ERIC mission, which is to provide a comprehensive, easy-to-use, searchable, Internet-based bibliographic and full-text database of education research and information for educators, researchers, and the general public.

Steering Committee members have a blend of expertise in education libraries, literature, and research; information management, access and delivery; and the major technical aspects of an online database, database search engine, and Web site. The committee has previously advised the Department on such issues as developing the standards and criteria for selecting materials for the ERIC digital library and providing input into research and development in enhanced technology for the digital library, search engine, and Web site. Current issues and priorities include:

  • Database and Web site building and usability
  • Metadata and indexing
  • Archiving and curation of files

as well as other goals and priorities established by the Steering Committee in collaboration with the Department of Education.
