Economic Development Board Strategic Plans
The Economic Development Board is responsible for creating and updating North Carolina's economic development strategic plan. The Board’s current plan covers the period 2009-2012.
In 1994, the Board wrote its first state strategic plan, Making North Carolina a High Performance State. In 2002, the We Are Changing the Way We Do Business strategic plan focused on innovative approaches to recruitment and retention incentives and promoting knowledge-based industries in the sciences and technology. The strategic plan was again updated in 2004, 2006 and 2007.
In 2009, Governor Perdue charged the Board with creating a new strategic plan. Through its committees, the Board focused on and integrated into the plan three major areas of economic development in North Carolina including: Global Economic Competitiveness; Innovation, Technology, Education and Workforce; and Widely-Shared Prosperity. Each committee was aided by staff from the Department of Commerce and by advisors from other state agencies, private companies and non-profit organizations.
