CAMP ATTERBURY, Ind. – Mission Command Training Program is providing observer/coach training support for Vibrant Response 13 Aug. 1-13. The training exercise is taking place at Camp Atterbury, Ind. and is led by U.S. Army North in preparation for a fictitious large-scale nuclear attack on American soil.

FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii – As Operations Group A’s main body of the Mission Command Training Program arrived at the Honolulu Airport last week, their advance party was already on site here at U.S. Army Pacific Command and in the central area of the Republic of Korea, laying the groundwork for their roles as Observer, Coach/Trainers in support of Ulchi Freedom Guardian 2012, a key exercise designed to strengthen the readiness of ROK and U.S. forces.

New Training Management Doctrine on its way


New Training Management Doctrine


FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. -- Soon the Army will publish a new series of manuals that will reflect a different approach to writing doctrine and lessons learned in Iraq and Afghanistan. The new manuals are part of the Doctrine 2015 that restructures how the Army develops and publishes doctrinal manuals. Several of these new manuals have already been put into print, such as Army Doctrine Publication (ADP) 3-0 and 5-0, but on Aug. 31 it is expected that most of the remaining foundational manuals will be complete and made available to the public. As part of this effort, the Army will replace FM 7-0, Training Units and Developing Leaders for Full Spectrum Operations with two new manuals: Army Doctrine Publication (ADP) 7-0 and Army Doctrine Reference Publication (ADRP) 7-0.

COL Lundy assumes responsibility of CAC-T

Combined Arms Center Commanding General LTG David Perkins hands the Assumption of Responsibility Certificate to Deputy Commander of the Combined Arms Center – Training COL (P) Michael Lundy. The Assumption of Responsibility ceremony was 27 July at Fort Leavenworth’s Frontier Conference Center. Lundy said it was privilege to lead CAC-T, which is responsible for training support and training development throughout the Army. He said CAC-T will continue to strive to make sure the Army is the best trained in the world.

ATN hits 5-million mark


In July 2012, the Army Training Network (ATN) achieved a significant milestone -- surpassing the 5-million hit mark since going live in April 2009.

 

The ATN (https://atn.army.mil) is the Army's first-stop online portal to help units and leaders plan and conduct their unit training. ATN is operated by the Training Management Directorate (TMD) at Fort Leavenworth, KS.

MCTP hosts mass atrocity prevention, response exerciseMCTP hosts mass atrocity prevention, response exercise


Washington, D.C -- Mission Command Training Program hosted a military and civilian table-top exercise (TTX) that focused on Mass Atrocity Response Operations (MAPRO) at the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C. on June 12-13.

Participants included members of the Army, Air Force and representatives from over 15 governmental agencies to include the State Department, Department of Defense, Department of Justice and the Central Intelligence Agency.

The TTX took place two days prior to the first meeting of the Atrocity Prevention Board (APB). In Aug. 2011, President Obama ordered a Presidential Study Directive on Mass Atrocities (PSD-10). The APB will work to coordinate a whole of government approach to prevention mass atrocities and genocide.

FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – COL (P) Robert “Pat” White received the Legion of Merit Award for his service as Deputy Commander of the Combined Arms Center – Training (CAC-T). After nearly a year at Fort Leavenworth, White is leaving to be the Assistant Division Commander (Support) of the 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Ga. In April, the Senate confirmed his promotion to be a Brigadier General.

COL Dvoracek receives Legion of Merit Award


FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – COL Michael Dvoracek received the Legion of Merit Award as Combined Arms Center senior leaders recognized the accomplishments of his Army training directorate.


Dvoracek is the outgoing director of the Training Management Directorate (TMD), an organization he led for nearly two years. He received the award Monday at a ceremony in the Lewis and Clark Center’s Pat Roberts Room.


During the ceremony, senior CAC leaders talked about TMD’s success with the Army Training Network, the one-stop shop for training resources and materials.

For Col. Anthony Krogh, the approaching end of more than 10 years of war seems more like a call to action. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have taken a toll, but they have also left the US Army battle-tested. As peacetime draws nearer, the Pentagon is grappling with a vital question: How can the military keep its soldiers engaged and fighting fit, both physically and mentally? Krogh thinks he knows one answer: video games. He is the director of the National Simulation Center.

COL White (P) confirmed for brigadier general


FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The Senate has confirmed COL Robert “Pat” White’s promotion to the rank of brigadier general. He and other general officers were confirmed by the Senate on Thursday. White arrived at Fort Leavenworth in July 2011 to become the Deputy Commander of the Combined Arms Center for Training. CAC-T supports and develops training throughout the Army.

Gaming plays important role in Army training

Sim Center partners with school district


Fort Leavenworth, Kan. — It’s software that high school students use to learn drafting and design, but Marco Conners was amazed to watch his 9-year-old son and friends glued to the computer screen for their AutoCAD elementary school project. "They were totally immersed in the program," Conners said.


As part of the Cyber-TEAMS initiative at the Fort Leavenworth School District, Conners, deputy director for TCM Gaming at the National Simulation Center, is one of the partner mentors helping implement technology into the curriculum at post schools.

Nebraska ROTC students Learn simulation skills

ROTC cadets learn skills and leadership at NSC


FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. - Fifteen Army ROTC cadets from Nebraska had some fun and learned some valuable lessons at the National Simulation Center (NSC).


The event was hosted by the TRADOC Capability Manager for Gaming (TCM Gaming), which is part of the NSC.


The cadets from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and University of Nebraska-Kearney were introduced to Virtual Battlespace 2, a commercial serious game program that the Army uses to train soldiers.

High-tech war games at Ellington Ready reservists for battlefield

Forward Operating Base Extortion has too much lush green grass and too few concrete blast walls to pass for a real airfield in Afghanistan. But for a few days this month, the encampment of military tents and trucks at Ellington Field in Houston will bring dozens of Army reservists as close to a war zone as they can get without leaving Texas.


The 77 reservists from 7th Battalion, 158th Aviation Regiment traveled by convoy from the unit's headquarters at Fort Hood to Ellington last week for four days of computerized war games orchestrated by Houston-based 75th Training Division.

NSC works with Fort Leavenworth schools to promote STEM education in classrooms


Schools around the country are partnering with the military to enhance science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) teaching and learning. Joppatowne Elementary School in Joppa, Maryland, is one of them.

In Kansas, Fort Leavenworth Unified School District 207 has greatly benefited from partnering with the military installation of Fort Leavenworth.

Don Toliver of TCM Gaming briefs Kansas legislators’ spouses about gaming’s role in training Soldiers.

FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – During a March 14 visit, spouses of Kansas state legislators learned how the Army uses gaming and virtual technologies to train Soldiers.


National Simulation Center Director COL Anthony Krogh welcomed the 10 spouses to the NSC, which is the leader of the Army’s training simulation community.


At the NSC, three experts briefed the visitors about gaming and virtual training programs, and the spouses said appreciated the briefings. Legislators’ spouses tour sites around Kansas while the state Legislature is in session.


During their post tour, the spouses were accompanied by Emma White, the wife of COL Robert “Pat” White, deputy commander of the Combined Arms Center – Training. CAC-T supports training and develops training throughout the Army.

AJST goes to Fort Huachuca


The Army Joint Support Team's latest training mission took it to Fort Huachuca, AZ, in February. Instructors taught students the doctrinal concepts and tenets of integrating air and surface-delivered fires. Students learned tactics, techniques and procedures for planning, coordinating and executing joint fires. The AJST provides the best training possible about integrating Army and Air Force elements, and integrating battlefield joint fires.

Fort Leavenworth, Kan. - Operations Group Bravo of the Mission Command Training Program recently completed a brigade Warfighter Exercise at Camp Bowie, Texas. It marks the first time Bravo has conducted a non-counterinsurgency training event.

MAJ David Faulk, Operations Observer/Trainer, Operations Group Sierra, Mission Command Training Program, observes members of the 113th Sustainment Brigade, North Carolina Army National Guard, conducting a battle drill during the unit’s final culminating training exercise (CTE) at North Fort Hood, Texas, before deploying to Kuwait.
