Access Problems

For Users Having Problems Connecting To Secure Sites

For user's that are having problems connecting to secure .mil websites, the following actions will install the necessary Microsoft DoD CA Certificates on your system. This will allow you to connect to the sites.

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE RUNNING THE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

  • Right click the following "Microsoft DoD CA Certs" link and select "Save Target As." Save the zip file to your Desktop or other convenient location: Microsoft DoD CA Certs (ZIP, 42 KB) (Updated 6/18/10)
  • Right click the downloaded zip file, select "Extract All", and follow the extraction wizard steps as applicable.
  • This zip file contains three files:
    • DoDRootCACerts.p7b                             (all DoD-issued Roots)
    • DODIntermediateCACerts.p7b                 (all subordinate CAs)
    • DOD_Root_Trust_Chain_Readme.docx     (description of DoD CAs)

  • Right-click the file named "DoDIntermediateCACerts.p7b"
  • Select "Install Certificate"
  • Click the "Next" button
  • Click the radio button next to "Automatically select the certificate store based on the type of certificate"
  • Click the "Next" button
  • Click the "Finish" button
  • A pop up box will say "the import was successful"
  • Click the "OK" button

  • Right-click the file named "DoDRootCACerts.p7b"

  • Select "Install Certificate"
  • Click the "Next" button
  • Click the radio button next to "Place all certificates in the following store"
  • Click the "Browse" button
  • Click the folder named "Trusted Root Certificate Authorities"
  • Click the "OK" button
  • Click the "Next" button
  • Click the "Finish" button
  • A pop up box will say "the import was successful"
  • Click the "OK" button
