Reporting Options

If you have been sexually assaulted, call the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator immediately at 719-333-7272. This support line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

To preserve evidence of the assault, please follow these guidelines:

-- Do not bathe, shower or otherwise clean yourself.
-- Do not change your clothes.
-- Do not brush your teeth or use mouthwash.
-- If you must use the bathroom, save your urine for testing at the hospital.
-- Do not eat or drink anything.
-- Do not apply or use any type of medication.
-- Do not disturb or clean up the crime scene.

To preserve crucial evidence that can be used later in your case should you choose to pursue legal action, a forensic examination should be performed within 72 hours of the assault. However, please remember that the SARC is always available to assist you.

RESTRICTED vs. UNRESTRICTED REPORTING

Restricted Reporting:
-- Is confidential.
-- Is available only to military personnel on active duty (including Reserve component personnel currently in active status).
-- Does not automatically trigger a law enforcement investigation.
-- Does not automatically involve the victim's chain of command.

Unrestricted Reporting:
-- Is disseminated to those in the chain of command (not including cadet leadership) with a need to know.
-- Is available to anyone.
-- Triggers a law enforcement investigation.

Medical examinations, counseling services and victim advocate services are available regardless of whether a victim files a restricted or unrestricted report.
