Academy Spirit Staff

Lt. Col. John Bryan is the Air Force Academy's director of public affairs. As the director of PA, Bryan creates and executes strategies to build informed public support for the Air Force Academy, including guidance and policy for publication of the Academy Spirit.

Gino Mattorano is the interim chief of the Public Affairs office's Internal Information division and managing editor for the Academy Spirit and supervises the paper's week-to-week operations. Mattorano has covered the fifth-annual National Security Innovation competition, community outreach efforts by the Air Force Academy Band and the semiannual Falcon Heritage Forum. He is an avid bicyclist and can regularly be found on the Academy's Falcon Trail.

Don Branum is a staff writer and associate editor for the Academy Spirit. He has covered topics related to diversity, interfaith relations and the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell as well as Academy Airmen's role in the 2011 all-Air Force basketball team, the top Class of 2011 graduate and the 2011 graduation ceremony. Branum is a fan of computer gaming and holds a black belt in Google-fu.

Amber Baillie is a staff writer for the Academy Spirit. Her stories have included coverage of the National Character and Leadership Symposium as well as science, technology, engineering and mathematics outreach and Holocaust remembrance. She graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communications.

Carol Lawrence-Guinta is the Academy Spirit's layout-and-design specialist. In this role, she combines news and feature stories, photographs and art into a cohesive weekly product. Lawrence is a professional photographer for the Gazette whose portfolio includes the Academy's 2009 graduation ceremony and Fort Carson's December 2009 march for the homeless.
