United States Attorney
Application for the next U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois.
Applications for the next U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois will be reviewed by a nonpartisan, six person screening committee comprised of legal experts with experience as federal prosecutors, federal judges, top Department of Justice officials, corporate litigators, public corruption investigators, and criminal defense attorneys. The screening committee will recommend candidates to Senators Durbin and Kirk, who will conduct joint interviews and submit names to President Obama.
Once the President submits a nomination to the U.S. Senate, the nominee will be reviewed by the Senate Judiciary Committee, of which Senator Durbin is a member, and will receive a vote in the committee. The approval of both home state Senators is required for the Senate Judiciary Committee to take up and consider any U.S. Attorney nominee. If a nomination is approved by the Judiciary Committee, the nominee will receive a vote by the full Senate. On average, it takes between two to four months to confirm a U.S. Attorney once that nomination is sent to the Senate.
To apply, complete the following by August 31, 2012:
Senator Richard Durbin
230 S. Dearborn St., Suite 3892
Chicago, IL 60604
THE DEADLINE FOR COMPLETING THE APPLICATION PROCESS IS AUGUST 31, 2012.
