Does your child have type 2 diabetes and need a helping hand? If so, let me tell you about our “Buddy Study,” which is recruiting young people with type 2 diabetes.
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
Type 2 diabetes used to be known as “adult onset diabetes.” Unfortunately, today it’s being found in youth, and African American, Hispanic, and Latino children are at greater risk for the disease.
The Buddy Study is designed to help us determine whether young people with type 2 diabetes can get better control of their condition and have a better quality of life if they are assigned a partner – another young person who wants to help out. We’re currently enrolling individuals with type 2 diabetes, ages twelve to twenty.
