U.S. Department of Education Awards $50,000 to Help Shannon County School District Recover from Multiple Student Suicides

The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools has awarded Shannon County School District in southwest South Dakota a $50,000 Project School Emergency Response to Violence (SERV) grant to assist with ongoing recovery efforts following the suicide deaths of nine students during the 2009-2010 school year.

Highest Percentage of Turnaround Funds Are Going To High Schools

As the recently released "Building a Grad Nation" report provides a renewed call to action to address high school graduation rates, the U.S. Department of Education announced today that of the more than 700 schools receiving School Improvement Grants (SIG) to implement one of the four turnaround models this year, 48 percent are high schools.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that an additional $11,994,405 is now available for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. To date, CNMI has received $48,922,625 through the ARRA.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that an additional $24,995,119 is now available for Guam under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. To date, Guam has received $122,450,229 through the ARRA.
