How Secure Flight Affects You

All passengers are required to provide the following Secure Flight Passenger Data (SFPD) to the airline:

• Name (as it appears on government-issued identification [ID] used when traveling)
• Date of Birth
• Gender
• Redress Number (airlines must request it, but it is optional for passengers to provide it, if available)

What Are The Benefits Of Secure Flight?

Secure Flight makes travel safer by more effectively identifying individuals who may pose a threat to aviation and enables officials to address security threats sooner. Furthermore, by creating one watch list matching system, it helps prevent the misidentification of passengers who have names similar to those names on the watch list. Additionally, Secure Flight offers an improved redress process, so that those who are mistakenly matched to the watch list can avoid further problems in the future.

Redress - For Passengers Who Feel They Have Been Misidentified

Those who believe they have been mistakenly matched to a name on the watch list are invited to apply for redress through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Traveler Redress Inquiry Program (TRIP). Secure Flight uses the results of the redress process in its watch list matching process to help prevent future misidentifications for passengers who may have a name similar to those names on the watch list. • Tips for traveling: Be sure to bring the appropriate government-issued identity document (ID) when traveling. Acceptable forms of ID include an unexpired passport issued by a foreign government; an unexpired document issued by a U.S. federal, state, or tribal government that includes the individual's full name, date of birth, photograph; or other documents that TSA may designate as valid verifying identity. • Complete the DHS TRIP application process if you believe you were mistakenly identified as a match to the watch list. By doing so, you can help prevent future misidentifications and delays at the airport.
• Arrive at the airport with ample time to check in before your flight. For most individuals, Secure Flight will expedite the check-in process by reducing misidentifications, but some passengers may need to check in at the ticket counter and provide identification to proceed with check in.
