Acclaimed author and political scientist Robert D. Putnam will deliver the 17th annual Governor’s Lecture in the Humanities, presented by the Nebraska Humanities Council and Foundation and co-sponsored by the University of Nebraska and the E.N. Thompson Forum on World Issues. Mr. Putnam will be speaking on “American Grace: How Religion Divides and Unites Us,” a book he co-authored with David Campbell of the University of Notre Dame that focuses on the role of religion in American public life. The lecture will be the first program in the 2012-13 E.N. Thompson Forum on World Issues, which will focus on religion and global issues. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will take place on October 2 at the Lied Center for the Performing Arts in Lincoln, Nebraska. Although the lecture is free, tickets must be reserved in advance by calling the Lied Center box office at at (402) 472-4700.
Mr. Putnam is the Malkin Professor of Public Policy at Harvard University and the author of more than a dozen books, including the best-selling “Bowling Alone: the Collapse and Revival of American Community” and “Better Together: Restoring American Community.” He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, a fellow of the British Academy, and a visiting professor at the University of Manchester. He is the recipient of the 2006 Skytte Prize, one of the highest awards for a political scientist.
