A seagull flies over the California Coastal National Monument which stretches along the entire coast of California and extends 12 miles into the Pacific Ocean.  The Monument includes 20,000 rocks, islands, pinnacles and reefs.

Project Vitals 

Proposed Location: Three miles northwest of the Town of Mojave, 11 miles east of the City of Tehachapi

Electricity Production Capacity: 300 megawatts (combined public and private land)

Company: Alta Windpower Development, LLC

Acreage: 2,592 acres (2,024 acres of BLM land, 568 acres of private land)

Status: Draft EIS published in the Federal Register on 6/29/12

Public Comment: Comment period on Draft EIS ends Sept. 27, 2012

Electrictrical Transmission Connection: The project would tie into Southern California Edison's Windhub substation

Company's Expected Benefit:  The project would generate enough electricity to power 90,000 homes.


Public Comments

Publication of the NOA initiates a public comment period of 90 days, ending September 27, 2012. During the comment period, the BLM and the County will solicit public comments on the analysis described in the EIS/EIR and any relevant planning issues, concerns, potential impacts, alternatives, and mitigation measures that may not have been included in the analysis of the proposed action.

Public Meetings and Hearings

Joint public meetings will be held with the BLM and Kern County on Wednesday, August 1, 2012. Both meetings will be held at the Mojave Veterans Building, Room 1, 15580 O Street, Mojave, CA 93501. The first meeting is at 1:00PM - 4:00PM and the second meeting will be held at 6:00PM - 9:00PM.
