September 14, 2012

Six new large fires were reported yesterday, four in Idaho and one in California and Montana. Firefighters continue to make progress toward containment goals despite active burning conditions in many western states.

Two MAFFS from the 146th Airlift Wing, Channel Islands (California Air National Guard), and the 145th Airlift Wing, Charlotte, NC are supporting wildland fire suppression operations out of Sacramento, CA.

Weather: Warm and dry conditions will continue across the West as high pressure builds over the region. Cooler weather will drop into the Plains and the upper and mid-Mississippi Valley as a cold front pushes toward the East coast. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop across Texas and Oklahoma, some with heavy rain. Rain and few thunderstorms will move into New England. The Southeast and Mid-Atlantic will remain warm and dry.
