The September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance is less than one month away! Many communities and organizations around the nation are in the final stages of coordinating remembrance ceremonies and service activities to observe and reflect on the day.

Here we provide answers to some of the frequently asked questions about the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance service projects and activities:

Q. What kinds of service do people do?

A. Last year hundreds of thousands of people came out to serve on projects ranging from creating care packages for homeless veterans to brightening classrooms for school children or cleaning up a local park. Q. How do I find a service project to participate in?

A. Visit us at the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance website. There you will find a project locator widget to locate projects around the country.

Q. I couldn't find a project in my community … what can I do?

A. Every community has opportunities to serve and needs that can be met with enthusiasm and a can-do spirit. Start by reaching out to local community organizations and finding out how you can help. Invite friends and family members to get involved with you! Some examples include locating a food kitchen that uses volunteers to prepare or serve meals to those in need, or a food drop-off center that could use a few volunteers to help sort and bag food. Or think about contacting a senior center to see if volunteers are needed to visit with local residents for a few hours.

Q. We organized a great project and need volunteers. Where do we advertise our project?

A. Post your project on Serve.gov! There are people all over the country looking for ways to serve; help them connect!

Q. What else should I know about service and remembrance activities on 9/11?
