U.S. Under Secretary Martha Kanter will be one of the speakers at New America Foundation's roundtable discussion, "Financing College Success: Innovations to Promote Readiness, Access, and Completion," at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, in Washington, D.C. She will highlight the Obama Administration's initiatives to promote college access and affordability, particularly for lower-income students.
U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah, the legislative architect of the GEAR UP program, and others will join Kanter to discuss policies to build expectations for college success as well as steps that schools, policymakers, and communities can do to support the academic achievement of lower-income students.
