Aggravated Rape Suspect Nabbed in Northern Arkansas

Lafayette, LA – The U.S. Marshals Service is pleased to announce that forty-year-old William Langley was arrested in the Eastern District of Arkansas at approximately 10:30 am this morning in Izard County, Arkansas. The U.S. Marshals were assisted by the Arkansas State Police, Izard County Sheriff’s Office, and Sharp County Sheriff’s Office. Langley was arrested after attempting to climb out of a basement window in an effort to evade arrest.

Langley was Wanted by the Crowley Police Department for Aggravated Rape and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. Langley is also under investigation by the U.S. Marshals for violations of the Adam Walsh Act. In 2004 Langley was convicted of 2nd Degree Sexual Assault in Fulton County, Arkansas.

The U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force in Lake Charles and Lafayette began working this case on December 30, 2011. The task force has been working closely with the Crowley Police Department and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. Langley was booked at the Izard County Jail in Arkansas and will likely be extradited back to Louisiana in the near future.

Henry Whitehorn, the United States Marshal for the Western District of Louisiana, said, “The coordinated effort of all law enforcement to bring dangerous criminals to justice ensures that the streets and neighborhoods of Louisiana are a safer place to raise our children.”

The Western District of Louisiana’s Violent Offender Task Force (VOTF) in Lafayette is a team comprised of full-time law enforcement officers from the Lafayette City Marshals, Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, Lafayette Police Department, St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Louisiana Probation and Parole. Further, VOTF calls upon part-time TFO’s throughout its eight parish area. In 2011 VOTF in Lafayette closed nearly 500 Warrants, most of which were violent felony offenses. U.S. Marshals led Task Forces throughout the United States arrested more than 81,900 state and local fugitives, clearing approximately 108,200 state and local felony warrants, in 2010.
