Harrisburg, PA – On Tuesday, May 31, 2011,
the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) arrested Justin Enright – a 37-year old man
formerly from south central Pennsylvania - as he deplaned from a flight arriving
at the Charlotte, North Carolina International Airport.
Based upon a 2001 conviction for Sexual Abuse of Children in Carlisle,
Cumberland County, Enright was required to register as a sex offender. While on
parole on this case, and while living in Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County,
images of child pornography were found in Enright’s possession. Investigation of
the child pornography was referred to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Shortly thereafter, Enright went on the run.
In March 2007, authorities in Delaware issued an arrest warrant for Enright
after it was discovered he lived in that state without registering under Megan’s
Law.
In October 2007, the U.S. Marshals Service opened an Adam Walsh Act federal
investigation against Enright. The USMS determined that Enright likely fled to
Bermuda.
On March 12, 2008, Enright was indicted by federal authorities in the Middle
District of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg Division. He was charged with violating the
Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 – a law which makes it a
federal offense for convicted sex offenders to avoid their required
registrations by fleeing from one state to another. He was also indicted on
charges of federal child pornography. The United States Marshals Service
combined with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the indictment. The USMS
remained the lead agency for the fugitive investigation.
The U.S. Marshals Service opened an international investigation on Enright,
working closely with USMS headquarters personnel and Bermudian law enforcement
to identify and locate the fugitive. It was determined Enright was moving from
location to location, never maintaining a stable address. In early 2011, the
United States Attorney’s Office in Harrisburg applied for a provisional arrest
warrant against Enright in Bermuda.
On May 31, 2011, Enright boarded a flight in Bermuda, headed for Charlotte,
North Carolina. U.S. Marshals Service personnel arrested Enright at the
Charlotte International Airport upon his arrival.
Enright will face federal court proceedings in the Eastern District of North
Carolina, with a view toward his return in custody to the Middle District of
Pennsylvania.
Acting U.S. Marshal Martin J. Pane stated, “As the lead federal agency
responsible for the arrest of non-compliant sex offenders, the U.S. Marshals
Service is committed to investigating Megan’s Law violators and Adam Walsh Act
fugitive cases. By prioritizing these cases, families and especially all
children can live in safer communities.”
