Second Rural Broadband Report
The FCC on June 12, 2011 released its second report to Congress on the state of broadband in rural America. The report finds that the nation has made significant progress in deploying broadband infrastructure and in implementing and modernizing policies and programs to facilitate broadband deployment and adoption across the nation in the two year since the First Rural Broadband Report was released. Prepared by the FCC in consultation with USDA’s Rural Utilities Service (RUS), the report noted that broadband deployment and adoption remains a top priority for the Obama Administration through ongoing loan and grant programs administered by RUS and regulatory reform measures and tools set forth by the FCC. However, more needs to be done to fulfill the Administration’s objective for widespread deployment of affordable, quality broadband services to every community. The First Report was delivered to Congress in May 2009.
