TLOA Training

The Department of Justice invites you to join us for two webinars that are part of an interagency effort to clarify expectations and progress around shared deliverables under the Tribal Law and Order Act (TLOA). The presentations will include federal staff, field experts and/or tribal representatives who will provide a variety of perspectives on these key TLOA deliverables. Those who would benefit from these webinars include tribes, organizations, and individuals who work with tribal populations.

Consultations

The Department of Justice invites tribal leaders to join us on October 2-3, 2012, at the Hyatt Regency Tulsa in Tulsa, OK, for government-to-government Annual Consultations on both Violence Against Women and Department of Justice Grant Funding.

DOJ hopes that tribal leaders will to share their recommendations about how we can work together to end violence against women and improve DOJ support for tribal justice systems through grants like the Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation (CTAS). Interdepartmental Tribal Justice, Safety, and Wellness Session (TJSW) Session 15

On October 3, 2012, the TJSW Session 15 will immediately follow the Violence Against Women Act Annual Tribal Consultation Session and the Department of Justice Grants Funding Session.

The Department of Justice at TJSW Session 15 in the afternoon of October 3, 2012 will be holding a Listening Session on Tribal Law and Order Act (TLOA) Tribal Justice Plan (TJP) Implementation Strategy.  The Department will provide an overview the Plan, update of accomplishments to date and will seek input on priorities, promising practices and approaches and key partners that Tribes recommend to support implementation.

The Department of Justice at TJSW Session 15 in the afternoon of October 3, 2012 will be holding a Listening Session on Tribal Law and Order Act (TLOA) Tribal Justice Plan (TJP) Implementation Strategy. The Department will provide an overview the Plan, update of accomplishments to date and will seek input on priorities, promising practices and approaches and key partners that Tribes recommend to support implementation. On October 4th, as part of TJSW Session 15 there will be presentations and focus group discussions to support the work of three of the TJP Workgroup Subcommittees: Alternatives to Incarceration, Tribal Justice Systems Infrastructure (Building and maintenance, operations and programs) and Managing High Risk Offenders and their Reentry. the TJSW will also include sessions on Native American veterans, Sexual Assault, Suicide Prevention, Juvenile Justice, hate crimes, the Justice Department's Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation (CTAS) practitioner's assessment session, federal grant writing, and conducting comprehensive planning for tribal justice systems. By focusing on these critical and interrelated needs with tribal governments and their communities, TJSW Session 15 continues the tradition of strong interagency collaboration to support tribal capacity to effectively address public health needs and prevent and respond to public safety concerns. Accomplishment

In June 2009, Attorney General Eric Holder launched a Department-wide initiative to enhance public safety in Indian County. Significant progress has been made since then. This document offers highlights of the Department’s progress in the following areas: enhanced prosecution and training efforts; implementation of the Tribal Law and Order Act of 2010 (TLOA); grant opportunities; general litigation; civil rights; and outreach and consultation.
