Minneapolis

Welcome to the Minneapolis Regional Office page. Our office serves employees, employers and unions in the states of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, western Wisconsin, and most of Iowa. We conduct elections, investigate charges of unfair labor practices, and sometimes hold hearings in our offices. We are happy to answer questions about the rights and obligations afforded under our law. Please feel free to stop by or call us at 1-612-348-1757, or our Des Moines Resident office at 1-515-284-4391, and ask for the information officer on duty.  We also provide speakers and materials to local community groups and schools on request.

On August 14, 2012, Regional Director Marlin Osthus will be speaking at a meeting of Honeywell Labor Relations Directors from the United States, Mexico and Canada.  Topics of the presentation will include an overview of the NLRA, the relationship between the NLRB and FMCS, the current make-up of the Board and recent decisions of the Board.

American Bar Association Annual Meeting, Chicago, Illinois

On August 5, 2012, Regional Director Marlin Osthus will be a member of a panel discussing the topic: “Where Will the Pendulum Stop on Arbitration? ADR and Arbitration Law Update” at the American Bar Association Annual Meeting in Chicago.  The panel discussion will take place from 9:00-10:30 am. 

CLE Event, "NLRB Update: New Procedures in Representation Cases (and More)"

On May 1, 2012, a CLE program titled "NLRB Update: New Procedures in Representation Cases (and More)," will be held at the University of St. Thomas School of Law, MSL 446, 1000 Lasalle Avenue in downtown Minneapolis.  The event will include a panel discussion with Regional Director Marlin Osthus and local attorneys Thomas Trachsel, Mark Mathison, and Gregg Corwin regarding the new election procedure rules.  1.5 CLE credits have been applied for.  The Event Code is 167142.

Outreach Presentation to IBEW Local 949

On April 20, 2012, Regional Director Marlin Osthus will be presenting to IBEW Local 949 stewards in Bloomington, MN regarding the Board’s new posting rule, employee Weingarten rights, the duty of fair representation, employer work rules that violate the Act, and changes in membership on the Board and resulting changes in Board law.

North Dakota State University College of Business

On April 18, 2012, Regional Director Marlin Osthus will be presenting to students in the College of Business at North Dakota State University in Fargo.  The Regional Director will present an overview of the day-to-day operations of the NLRB and its regional offices with regard to processing unfair labor practice charges and representation petitions.  He will also provide information on the Board’s notice posting requirement, recent Board cases involving social media, and the lockout of employees at American Crystal Sugar.
