Lending Policy

The NREL Library will lend material to outside requesters via their local library's Interlibrary Loan Services. Visitors may not borrow from our collection directly.

The NREL Library has extensive resources in renewable energy technologies and basic research to support the NREL mission.

The collection supports the following research in energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies:

  • Advanced vehicles and fuels
  • Energy analysis
  • Biomass
  • Electric infrastructure
  • Geothermal energy
  • Hydrogen and fuel cells
  • Solar energy
  • Wind energy

Basic research components of the collection include:

  • Biological, biomolecular, and chemical sciences
  • Carbon-based nanosciences
  • Optoelectronics
  • Solid state theory
  • Superconductivity

Two library branches serve the Laboratory:

  • The multidisciplinary NREL Library on the main NREL campus
  • The Wind Technical Library at the National Wind Technology Center

The NREL Library advances the Laboratory's mission of research and technology transfer in renewable energy and energy efficiency by focusing our technical expertise on identifying, analyzing, creating, managing and delivering information resources and services integral to scientific collaboration and discovery, and by incorporating sustainable practices into all aspects of our work.
