Members of the Special-Purpose Marine-Air Ground Task Force Black Sea Rotational force 12 came to the aid of a Romanian family who lost control of their vehicle during a rainstorm on Romanian highway E60. After leaving the road the vehicle penetrated a guardrail and came to rest 500 meters down a steep embankment trapping the family.

Thanks to the U.S. Army Europe’s (EUCOM) Humanitarian Assistance Program overseen by the U.S. Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC), Tulcea County now boasts a new school, orphanage and medical clinic. All three sites were built or renovated by local Romanian companies with funding from U.S. Army Europe and contracted by U.S. Naval Facilities.

From the delivery of its first aircraft in July 2009, the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW) has flown every mission with a multinational crew. Today for the first time in its short history, the HAW completed a combat mission with a different crew mix: seven airmen consisting of three Swedes, two Norwegians, one Bulgarian and one Polish had the honor of flying the first mission without any US Air Force crew members on board.

Lt. Dorina Petre was the only female standing in formation with nearly 200 U.S. and Romanian Special Forces soldiers. Her small framed stature stood out amongst the men with green, burgundy and blue berets even though she was wearing a green beret herself. She did not feel out of place however, since she was surrounded by the men who knew her plight and the legacy of her last name, so much so that they fought for her to be assigned to their ranks.
