Colorado Man Sentenced on Firearm Charge

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Colorado man charged with Possession of an Unregistered Firearm was sentenced on August 1, 2012, by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. David McKeehan, age 48, was sentenced to 115 months' imprisonment and 3 years' supervised release, and was ordered to pay $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund.

In June 2010, after a traffic stop by the South Dakota Highway Patrol, law enforcement officers found two sawed-off shotguns and an SKS rifle in McKeehan's vehicle, none of which were registered to him. He pled guilty on April 5, 2012.

This case was investigated by the ATF, the South Dakota Highway Patrol, and the Meade County Sheriff's Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman prosecuted the case.

McKeehan was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
