Army Jag Corps
Army JAG lawyer in staff call

The Program

Each summer, the Army JAG Corps hires law students to work as legal interns in hundreds of offices across the United States and around the world in places like Germany, South Korea, Japan, Alaska, and Hawaii. For 60 calendar days, these summer interns work as temporary civil service employees performing a variety of legal assignments. Interns do not incur any military service obligation by participating in the JAG Corps Summer Intern Program.

The Practice

Interns work under attorney supervision in virtually every practice area of the JAG Corps. 'You may be asked to draft briefs or opinions, conduct a claims investigation, interview witnesses, or assist in the preparation of courts-martial. Your supervisor will assess your progress and review your work for completeness, soundness and proper application of legal methods and principles. Most important, they'll provide you with a constructive evaluation of your abilities.

Maybe you haven't yet chosen an area of law you want to specialize in. The JAG Corps will give you the opportunity to try your skills at a number of legal disciplines to help you reach a decision. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to observe and assist professional JAG Corps Attorneys as they represent the Army and the United States at local, state and federal levels in areas such as federal tort claims, employment law, international law and environmental law. Interns also assist JAG Corps Attorneys who counsel and represent Soldiers, their family members and retirees in personal legal matters in areas such as family law, estate planning, landlord/tenant law, tax, bankruptcy, immigration and naturalization law, and military administrative law.
