Work Schedules / Pay and Leave

Pay and Leave
There are 26 two-week pay periods in a pay year. Payment is issued every two weeks on the second Thursday following the end of the pay period. New employees will receive their first payment 12 days after the end of the pay period in which they are hired. The delay in payment represents the time required for payroll computations.

Employees hired after January 1, 1995, are required to have payments electronically deposited in their account at a financial institution of their choice.

Earnings, Leave and Benefits Statements can be accessed electronically through the DOE Employee Self Service website.

Work Schedules
A full-time employee working a Flexible Work Schedule (FWS) must work 80-hours in a biweekly pay period. A part-time employee may work between 32 and 64-hours in a biweekly pay period depending on their part-time schedule approved by their supervisor. All employees are eligible to participate in FWS to achieve a better balance of personal or family needs.
