LANDFIRE Data Distribution Site

Schedule ›› Product Updates

LANDFIRE delivers consistent, recent, reliable data to support natural resource and fire management activities. Enhancements and improvements to the data products account for change in vegetation across the landscape such as those resulting from wildland fire, fuel and vegetation treatments, and/or management. Typical vegetation growth across all lands is also incorporated. LANDFIRE 2001 and 2008 (Refresh – LF_1.0.5/LF_1.1.0) data sets are complete and available through our Data Distribution Site.

The next and first biennial update, LANDFIRE 2010 (LF2010 - LF_1.2.0) is scheduled for delivery in the spring of 2013 (target month of March 2013). An important difference with this cycle of LANDFIRE is that instead of an incremental delivery of data products by mapzone or by geographic area, data products will be delivered in three groups: 1). Conus, 2). Alaska, and 3). Islands.

This delivery schedule will allow LANDFIRE to do more quality assurance/quality control of the data products between map zones and geographic areas. LF 2010 will reflect 2008 – 2010 disturbance and management activities, culminating in a 2010 landscape condition. LF 2010 will deliver a subset of data for additional islands (US Insular areas, represented in the Islands GeoArea in the map found on this page).

Update methods utilize user contributed data that reflect natural disturbances and vegetation management to help inform landscape change. While data can be submitted at any time, the cut-off date for data inclusion in the next update cycle is November 15 of each year. Submissions after November 15th will be considered in the next update.
