Mitsubishi has announced an increase to the price of its upcoming “i” electric car before it even hits the market.

The new price will start at $29,195, marking a $1,135 increase over the previously announced price for the base model. A federal tax credit for electric cars will bring that down to a net cost of $21,625 out the door.

Other trim lines will include the SE for $31,125 ($23,625 after the tax credit).

Options will include a Premium package that adds Bluetooth, USB connection, a backup camera, hard-drive based navigation system, steering-wheel audio controls, and a DC fast-charge port for $2,790. A Cold Zone package includes a battery warmer and heated mirrors for $150. And two-tone paint can be had for $300.

Even after the $1,100 price increase, the “i” will still be the cheapest electric car on the market when it hits dealerships early next year.
