Interagency Task Force on Carbon Capture and Storage

The Interagency Task Force on Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is a group of technologies for capturing, compressing, transporting and permanently storing power plant and industrial source emissions of carbon dioxide. Rapid development and deployment of clean coal technologies, particularly CCS, will help position the United States as a leader in the global clean energy race.

Climate Change Adaptation Task Force

The Task Force’s work has been guided by a strategic vision of a resilient, healthy, and prosperous Nation in the face of a changing climate.  To achieve this vision, the Task Force identified a set of guiding principles that public and private decision-makers should consider in designing and implementing adaptation strategies. 

National Ocean Council

The National Ocean Council is a dual Principal- and Deputy- level committee which has nine priority objective areas: Ecosystem-Based Management, Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning, Inform Decisions and Improve Understanding, Coordinate and Support, Resiliency and Adaptation to Climate Change and Ocean Acidification, Regional Ecosystem Protection and Restoration, Water Quality and Sustainable Practices on Land, Changing Conditions in the Arctic, ocean, Coastal, and Great Lakes Observations, Mapping, and Infrastructure.

The U.S. Climate Change Technology Program

The U.S. Climate Change Technology Program is a multi-agency research and development program for the development of climate change technology.

The National Security Council

The National Security Council (NSC) is the President's principal forum for considering national security and foreign policy matters with his senior national security advisors and cabinet officials. Since its inception under President Truman, the Council's function has been to advise and assist the President on national security and foreign policies. The Council also serves as the President's principal arm for coordinating these policies among various government agencies.

The Subcommittee on Disaster Reduction

The Subcommittee on Disaster Reduction (SDR) is an element of the President’s National Science and Technology Council and facilitates national strategies for reducing disaster risks and losses that are based on effective use of science and technology. 

The United States Group of Earth Observations (USGEO)

In 2005, USGEO was established under the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy’s Committee on Environment and Natural Resources to lead federal efforts to achieve a national Integrated Earth Observation System (IEOS).  Through USGEO, the U.S. further supports cooperative, international efforts to build the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS). GEOSS is being developed through the intergovernmental Group on Earth Observations (GEO), a partnership of 80 countries, the European Commission, and nearly 60 international organizations.
