eWell Query Instructions

    How do I use the public eWell query tool?

    Go to http://www.gomr.boemre.gov/homepg/fastfacts/apdform/master.asp to search for Applications for Permit to Drill.

    For a general search for approved permits using other parameters, follow these instructions:

    1. In the "Permit Type" field, select the appropriate choice from the drop down menu.
    2. In the "Water Depth" field, enter the beginning and ending water depth (in feet).
    3. In the "Approved Date" enter the beginning and end dates for your search.

    ***For the search to recognize the parameters you enter, the boxes to the left of these fields MUST be checked by clicking on them.***

    1. Using the "Sort Results By:" drop down menu, chose your preferred option; Chose "INCR" (increasing) or "DECR" (decreasing) to set the order in which you view results.
    2. Click on the Submit Query Button
    3. To view a Public Information copy of the approved permit, click on the hyperlinked API Well Number in the first column of the query results.

    EXAMPLES

    For new wells in shallow water (less than 500ft)

    NOTE: Shallow water drilling operations, which were not affected by the deepwater drilling moratorium, became subject to new rules and information requirements as of June 8, 2010. We are using this date as a sample below:

    1. In the "Permit Type" field, select "New Well" from the drop down menu.
    2. In the "Water Depth" field, enter "0" for the beginning water depth and "500" ending water depth.
    3. In the "Approved Date" enter "06/08/2010" for the beginning date and the current date for the end date.

    ***For the search to recognize the parameters you enter, the boxes to the left of these fields MUST be checked by clicking on them.***

    1. Using the "Sort Results By" and choose "Approved Date" in drop down menu, then choose "DECR" (decreasing) in the next drop down menu to set the order in which you view results.
    2. Click on the Submit Query Button.
    3. To view a Public Information copy of the approved permit, click on the hyperlinked API Well Number in the first column of the query results.

    For new wells in deep water (greater than 500ft)

    NOTE: The deepwater drilling suspensions were lifted on October 12, 2010, All APDs from October 12 forward comply with enhanced new rules and regulations. We are using this date as a sample below:

    1. In the "Permit Type" field, select "New Well" from the drop down menu.
    2. In the "Water Depth" field, enter "501" for the beginning water depth and "10,000" for the ending water depth.
    3. In the "Approved Date" enter "10/12/2010" for the beginning date and the current date for the end date.

    ***For the search to recognize the parameters you enter, the boxes to the left of these fields MUST be checked by clicking on them.***

    1. Using the "Sort Results By" drop down menu, click "Approved Date" then choose "DECR" (decreasing) in the second drop down menu to set the order in which you view results.
    2. Click on the Submit Query Button
    3. To view a Public Information copy of the approved permit, click on the hyperlinked API Well Number in the first column of the query results.
