Mali

Malaria in Mali
Malaria is the primary cause of morbidity and mortality in Mali, particularly among children under the age of five. The disease is endemic in the central and southern regions (where over 90 percent of Mali’s population lives) and considered an epidemic in the north. In 2010, the national health information system reported that malaria accounted for 45 percent of all medical consultations. However, fewer than half of these cases were confirmed by either microscopy or rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs). Malaria also accounts for 51 percent of all outpatient visits for children under five.
