ENCODE-modENCODE Consortia Data Release Policy
NHGRI has designated the ENCODE (Encyclopedia of DNA elements) and model organism ENCODE (modENCODE) projects as community resource projects to accelerate access to and use of the data by the entire scientific community. Accordingly, the data release policy for the projects is based on the principles of rapid data release to the scientific community set forth in the Fort Lauderdale agreement (See: Sharing Data from Large-scale Biological Research Projects: A System of Tripartite Responsibility).
The Fort Lauderdale agreement noted that the success and utility of community resource projects is based on mutual and independent responsibilities for the production and use of the resource by the resource producers, the resource users and the funding agencies. The ENCODE-modENCODE Consortia Data Release Policy has been developed in consultation with the members of the ENCODE and modENCODE Consortia, the External Consultants Panel for the projects, and the research community.
